The Brompton main frame/stem hinge will wear over time and develop play or movements even when clamps are fully tightened. When this happens, the hinges need to be taken apart, assessed for wear, re-bored, and lubricated before re-assembled with a new (larger) diameter spindles. To remove, re-insert, and flare the spindles will require a special tool, typically reserved for Brompton authorized dealers.

Similar to the Brompton dealer tool in functions, this tool is somewhat different in design. It has improved features such that the exiting spindle will automatically line up with the tool during extraction. 

Great for advanced amateurs or Brompton aftermarket service shops.

The current version (ver. 3) now has alignment adapters that can be used with a wrench. An additional stronger drift pin is also included.

Please note this tool is for removing spindles from worn hinges. It is not for extracting spindle from tight or seized hinges. In contrary to loose/worn hinges, tight/seized hinges are the results of lack of use AND exposure to moisture. The best way to resolve tight hinges is to lubricate and work the hinges, such that the rusts built-up in the hinge are polished out.
