Rear Wheel Skewer for Older C Line
This special skewer is for securing the P/T line style (external gear) rear wheel on the older C line.
This skewer allows securing the rear wheel and the chain tension in two separate stages. Most aftermarket skewers attempt to secure both the rear wheel and the chain tensioner in one step. If for any reason the thickness of the chain tensioner differs from the skewer design, then either the wheel or the tensioner will be loose.
On older C line, the conventional rear wheels were secured using M10 or 13/32” nuts on both sides. These large size nuts provide good strength, and the wheels are held securely inside the frame. When switching to the P/T line style rear wheel, the wheel is secured through only a single M5 nut. Smaller threads provide less strength. Therefore, it would be safer to use a pair of safety hooks to prevent possible wheel movement inside the frame.
The skewer nuts and safety hook washer are made from 304 stainless steel by CNC machining. The tensioner nut is made from 7075 aluminum alloy and hard anodized. The skewer bolts are boron alloy steel made by specialized bicycle bolt manufactuer.
Note: When not using hook washers, it is recommend to use 2mm washers (not included) instead. Otherwise, the skewer will protrude about 5mm from the end of non-drive-side nut.
